Organisers of the inaugural Writers in the Park invited NSWDS to take part in the Festival which was staged at Centennial Park, the home of Dickens statue. The event took place on Sunday 27 September 2015. It was an excellent opportunity to promote our Society and a striking pull-up banner was devised for the occasion. A stall advertising our Society was maintained by four NSWDS Committee members where second-hand copies of various Dickens books were available for sale. Also on sale for a gold coin donation were copies of Boz in Oz, the yearly magazine containing stories written by NSWDS members and some of our bi-monthly editions of Household Words. A Dickens quiz was offered, the prize being a copy of Lucinda Hawksley’s book Charles Dickens’ Favourite Daughter : The Life, Loves, and Art of Katey Dickens Perugini. Despite the rainy, windy weather, which didn’t dampen the spirits of those operating the stall, there was much interest shown by event attendees.
