Public reading of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”

Geoff Usher will give a public reading of Charles Dickens’ classic story “A Christmas Carol” at St James’ Church, King Street, Sydney,  Tuesday 18 December 2012 at 6.30pm.

Admission is free. There will be a collection to raise funds for the Sister Freda Mission which is supported by St James’ and provides meals for homeless people in the city.

A Unitarian minister who was at Sydney Unitarian Church, 1976 – 1991, Geoff Usher is a former teacher and professional actor.

Geoff then served as Minister of Upper Chapel in Sheffield, England, 1991 – 2010. In 1993, to mark the 150th anniversary of the publication of “A Christmas Carol”, he gave his first public reading of the story. It became a much acclaimed annual part of Sheffield’s Christmas celebrations until he retired in April 2010 and returned to his native Australia.

A member of the International Dickens Fellowship since 1970, Geoff is currently a committee member of the NSW Dickens Society. This reading will be the final event in the Society’s celebrations of the 200th anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth.
